THE  YEAR  OF  THE MUM

It's now near the end of  the "Year of the child"

You've been very good, though some have been wild

This was your year so lets now pick another

That one taken for granted,I mean your poor mother

Next year should be called "The year of the mum"

Give her a go and treat her like a chum

Don't call her a cow or even a tart

She's doing her best to give you a start

If your a latch-door kid because she's at work

Don't come home from school and lay back and shirk

Get up off your bum and wash all of the dishes

Welcome her at the door with all of your wishes

She might come home cranky, her back very sore

But then she's been working for eight hours or more

Some of you are nasty and treat her like dirt

You scream and you shout for another clean shirt

It's "Can I have that" and"Can I have this"

Not"What can I do mum" and give her a kiss

It's"Hurry up now and give me some money"

"I'm going out now  as it's looking quite sunny"

So get out the mop and polish the floors

Clean all the windows and open the doors

Just let her see that you really do care

Then she will go happy to bed and offer a prayer

It does not cost a cent to be real polite

It doesn't even matter if you are in the right

Give her a go because life can be hard

And she will let you know that your the "Top card"

When she sits up and waits when your home very late

Don't give her a look and a sneer that says hate

And when she can't give you  all you desire

Just make sure your that your tongue does not put out the fire

And remember, don't say that you've never been told

Because one of these days you too will grow old

Let her see that  the toil, the sweat and the tears

Have not been wasted those dozens of years

Just remember she changed your nappies, wiped your snotty nose

And gave up a lot just to keep you in clothes

And when your old and alone and your children don't come

Just remember you did this to your dear old mum

I don't mean to be nasty,or make you feel small

But it's easy to forget (It happens to us all)

So lets stand in the street and all yell as one

Now listen you kids it's "THE YEAR OF THE MUM"
