Letter To The Editor: The Press Enterprise Newspaper: Letters@pe.com & DBernstein@pe.com: Riverside, California:
Jan. 24, 02: Because I was unConstitutionally evicted from my rented space (Link to 1stNEEDLESCADRUGS, www.oocities.org/poet92363) and again became Homeless, I began emailing the FBI (webmaster@usdoj.gov) any observations in my travels of our vunerability to possible terrorism. So after many emails, earlier this month, I alerted them that the Riverside Transit terminal, had open drug dealing, putting in danger especially, the elderly, women with small children and the disabled. The terminal stank of beer and urine. Yesterday, I entered that same terminal to find it completely changed for the better! However, upon entering bus number 2104, route 29  (3:23pm, 13 minutes late), I found a male had sat himself in the Senior front section with THREE seats for his bags of groceries. As a Senior disabled, I requested that he move some to let me sit. He refused, saying I "had germs and he didnt want me near his food." Appealing to the amused driver, she said "We both could be thrown off of the bus," refusing to make him comply. He further insulted saying "I was wearing  dirty (freshly laundered by me in Indio, Ca.) clothes" , telling me to go sit in the back of the bus. The by now laughing White female driver, as I am White, the passenger being Black, reinforced his defamation of my character, forcing me to be humiliated in front of the busload of passengers, making me seek seating in the back. On leaving the bus at Fairmont Park, with two witnesses, the driver laughed derisively as we exited. This is how I am rewarded for my caring? / Staying at the National Guard Amory, a federally assisted program to house the Homeless in the Winter months, I awoke at 4:00 a.m. on my floormat, to hear a female tweaking loudly from the National Guard's quarters, I asked the awake front civilian attendant about it, and went to nicotine outside the front door, and upon arrival back inside, the woman was silent, and within minutes the White National Guard attendant snuck out the front door, when he should have been up all night watching us, as we slept.  In Indio, Ca., on Nov. 30, 01, at their amory this also happened, the Black female National Guard attendant spent her shift behind a closed door area, and in the morning 86ed me for protesting. As our honorable National Guard soldiers involve themselves in our war on terrorism, is this lack of honor  by a few at home, to be dismissed? We Homeless should be able to sleep, knowing that our welfare is not part of drug overlord activities, and the live munitions at each amory not in danger from intrusion or possible terrorism. / Jerry E. Barta, Formerly of 304 W. Broadway8, Needles, Ca. 92363  (Not For Print: cc: Mr. Daniel Hantman, Attorney At Law, 4072 Chestnut St., Riverside, Ca. 92505 (909-784-4400, for which his interest in suing is hereby requested for all matters on my website, 7/7/02/ He never responded to my requests) Also not for public Print: The first time at the above amory, the front desk attendant leader named AJ, was caught by me, not on his floor duty watching we Homeless in the wee hours of the morning, but behind closed doors of the National Guard Attendant, a White Sargeant watching video movies. This latest stay, lights out at 10:00 pm, I woke to find a multi racial group near our side, speaking loudly, I asked them to consider those sleeping. One a White Homeless client was verbally beligerent, but hushed by a young Black girl, who said her Uncle (AJ) had given them permission. They did disband however. She isnt Homeless, what was she doing inside?, and was she the one later tweaking behind the closed doors, and is she in danger? J.B. Jan. 26, 02. By the way, this amory operation is contracted to the Riverside Salvation Army. A female Homeless complained to me, they are not allowed to bathe at the amory*, they have to sleep unclean and then walk blocks the next day to the Sally to shower!
* 4/15/04: Perhaps, because of this letter sent, the females were allowed to shower ahead of the men this year. J.B.
AND Riverside police were in sight at downtown transit station, but still no restroom facilities.
