and biscuit with gravy. The hashed browns are done correctly, not too well done or raw. Dennys charges $2.79 for just the bisquit and gravy. 9,17,02: Someone recently told me Davids Cafe had been taken over by another group, so its possible, the above is no longer true. I have read in Italy, there are restaurants called trattorias where the common folk eat. El Caporal Mexican Food is like that. Located in the shopping center at 930 Sante Fe St. in Vista, Ca. its a unfancy but attractive place, its blond wooden tables are beautiful. On one side of the room, is a wall length of mirrors, one look at my old slovenly body should have ruined my appetite, but I can eat under any circumstances. Today, I had 2 large chicken enchildas for $3.00, delicious! (The only suggestion, I have for them is they make arrangements to sell the Yum Yum donut shop's, nearby them, eclairs, that would finish the meal nicely.) In Escondido, Ca. near Davids Cafe is another cafe, the Yum Yum Express, where you can for $5.00 tax included, get a heap of food within the Oriental selection. BUT DONT GO TO THE nearby DAYS MARKET, I did, some months ago, laying down a $20 bill, the fellow on duty said it was a $10. and gave me change for that! This store serves immigrants, seniors and the homeless, I wonder how many have fallen victim to his robbery? (When I emailed this to the Feds earlier this year, the next day, they closed down a Hamas Terrorist charity in Ranchos Penasquitos, Ca., outside of San Diego, about 20 miles. I dont know if there was a connection to the above or not.) J.B. WANT A REALLY BIG SANDWICH?, go the Downtown Deli, 138 West Grand Ave, Escondido, Ca. Their sandwiches cut in half are more than one can eat, they have 31 combinations at a reasonable price and their French fries, thick and excellent. J.B. ALMOST DAILY, I HAVE A REALLY BIG GLASS OF TEA AND 5 TRADITIONAL FRENCH ECLAIRS* AT THE YUM YUM DONUT SHOP AT 930 SANTE FE ST. IN VISTA, CA. FOR $1.99. SUPERB. *They are about as big as Mexican huevos, with no doubt, better intention. NEARBY, UPTO 3:00 pm, DAILY, ONE CAN FOR $4.55 EAT AT THE MANDARIN BUFFET UNTIL ONE STAGGERS WITH THE VALUE. BEST SELECTION, A BABY SHRIMP CHOW MEIN(?) OVER FRIED RICE, why is it, Oriental cooks cant cook meat without over cooking it until its tough, BUT THE SHRIMP DISH IS TENDER AND SUCCULENT? A QUIET PLACE WITH MEXICAN MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND. HOWEVER, THEY DONT GIVE SENIOR DISCOUNTS. J.B. Poet-Gardener ANOTHER FAVORITE OF MINE ARE THE CHURCHES CHICKEN PLACES, FORGET KFC< ITS FULL OF SALTS, AMAZINGLY SO. CHURCHES IS THE BEST AND BETTER PRICED. I CAN WITNESS AS A FORMER TEXAN, THEY MAKE REAL TEXAS FRIED CHICKEN. FAVORITE ONE OF MINE IS AT Mission Ave & Douglas Drive in Oceanside, Ca. 760 421 4215. THEY HAVE A SPECIAL ON TUESDAYS, TWO PIECES IF DARK, FOR 99 CENTS, MY MOMMA COULDNT MAKE IT THAT REASONABLE. Today, On bus RT 304 going to coastal area, I noticed a sign announcing "ROSSI'S PIZZA(corner rancho sante fe & grand ave, San Marcos, Ca.) and suddenly, like a pregnant, I really WANTED A PIZZA. So I disembarked, walked down and ordered the mini for $3.25, I devoured two actually. The dough is a bisquit dough base rather than the yeast type which gives us old timers, instant heartburn. A good deal in a small sports bar operation that is rather quaint. I have suggested that they offer a pizza made using ripe diced small Roma tomatoes, which are low acid and in a pizza absolutely great. I had my first, in Santa Cruz, Ca., they called it the "Californian Pizza." |
