At the near first of this January, 02, I fled from the Riverside, CA., Amory Shelter to Banning, Ca., and next to the Greyhound station, was sent by the Helping Hands Outreach Antiques & Thrift (to a 4 bed homeless shelter at a private home in Cherry Valley in Beaumont, Ca,-I left the next morning from there terrified. Let me describe it. The garage shelter has a piece of plywood for a door, there is no lock on it. Inside to the right, is a HUGE industrial size water heater. To its left is a padlocked half size upright freezer. On top of it is a plastic five gallon bucket with a copper tubing apparatus that might be used for distilling drugs. On a nearby table is a HUGE manual meat grinder, next to it is a table with many Bibles and some food such as Ramen Noodles. Then the first of two double bunk beds, beds unmade. (inbetween the bunk beds was spilled noodles on the floor, the owner said later, the previous night, a guest had pulled a knife...)Then the second double, which on top is a antler horn on folded blankets large enough to hold a human head down, down below, another unmade bed, in which on its wall back is a protruding out of the wall electrical outlet, wrapped carelessly with electrical tape. The back door, French doors opening outside to a dirt area, for smoking by guests. In front of, outside that door, is a HUGE cardboard box of spent shotgun casings, hundreds of them. The chair to sit on, is a very low to the ground beach type lawn chair, which one if sits in, is most difficult to get up out of quickly. Back in the room, is a sink with dusty, really dusty boxes of snack foods. And overhead cabinets that have nothing in them. In front of that is a heavy weights type table for excercising or strapping someone to. Above that in a most difficult place to read, is a bullitin poster that talks about a very unfriendly view of God and is severe in how He MUST BE worshipped. That diatribe ends with "THIS IS NOT A SHELTER OR A RECOVERY HOME, SO TAKE A CLUE AND MOVE ON." Then there is a commode inside louvered doors and a lavatory next to it. The owners of this horror, is a "Bruce" and his blond wife, and their three sons (9, 11, and 13). The address is 100071 Nancy St. He told me, He was a power lineman for Edison Power Co. Which didnt explain the shoddy electrical plug, as well as a like ceiling fan and a pecariously held on window shutters lamp. Supper was a several versions of gray gruel, the meat, oddly tasting. (He later told me, they ate nothing but venison, they hunted. I love venison, this did not taste like it.) He came in and said, I could take a shower in the house, because his wife had left to pick up his sons at a friends. Alone, naked with only him, and a hot water heater that could produce water hot enough to take skin off, I begged off. I slept very uneasily, eating the breakfast of too sweet Quakers Instant Oats (horrible stuff) and coffee. I escaped by having his wife call the local Dial A Ride to take me to the local hospital. She took the boys into the house, and wouldnt answer my knock to thank them for their gulp hospitality. Later, I called the Helping Hands outfit and described somewhat hysterically, their version of Jeffery Dahmers studio. Ya know, we Homeless, no one would miss us, if we became a contribution to the next guests meal. Jan. 24, I again went that way, and asked the Helping Hands outfit (909-922-8300 or 795-9860) if they had any more suitable places I could go and rest my weary soul. They said no, I had left the other one. Inside their shop, I noted an etched replica of the Devil in a medieval guise on a decorative plate amoungst some really beautiful very old antique jewelry and on that same counter, a huge blood red l8" glass plate with Rosemarys Babys type silver scroll work, perfect for a neighborhood infanticide, will Black Masses become the new surburban activity? / Right after this happened, I left a copy with the Riverside Fire District office downtown, adjacent to the Greyhound bus station. They never did contact me, did they the above?... |
