....Film Premise:
I: "Simply, Democracy." This is a fantasy, especially true, since I no longer believe in democracy except as one. I HAVE RECENTLY THOUGHT< THIS COULD BE FIRST A COMPUTER VERSION, THEN IF SUCCESSFUL< ONE WITH ACTUAL LIVING BEINGS), The premise is about various individuals, from various Indian tribes, being called by an invisible spirit to proceed towards an esoteric goal, the driving force of the story althrough the film, that resembles the Statue of Liberty in New York. The film is of their travels and difficulties toward that destination. It has several love stories, running along different tracks. All join up, haphazardly in a city that cannot comprehend their presence. Two marvelous parts are a Navajo and a Hopi, who continue to get lost, providing the work with sensitive comic relief. In their quiet moments via computer re:creation, they become the legendary Laurel and Hardy team. Two villians, as police officials track their progress into the city, wished to be played by Bill Cosby and Michael Caine. Hopefully only real Native Americans will be used for their roles, this is a fantasy, the Hell with reality. (Because Katherine Hepburn, had supposely passed on, I didnt consider this next until I read, she is still with us. Now again she is not, such is life.
The various Indian groups congregate at a wharf across from the Statue of Liberty, near sheds closed and locked. They stand there defeated without a way to cross, then a rain begins, a real rain, wetting them all as if the spirit is crying and at the same time celebrating rain as a cleanser, water pours as if a torrent everywhere, a magical moment, is when Katherine Hepburn (computerized?), appears, at the same time, an old man dresses in a Russian uniform of some vintage, in a tenement building, and walks calling to people to awaken, and suddenly, people appear, and doors are unlocked, and boats brought out. As for the idea below, forget it, one can only tolerate so much patriotism.
Opera:II: For sometime, in my pantry of my mind, I have toyed with the idea, that an opera be done, featuring a baseball player, as old as aged politician, who stands, by barracks of crowds of affectionados, pausing to go into game, considering whether he still has the stuff to continue...done in the Italian style, the crowds reveal his past failures within his art as well as venues of his personal life, his loves and lusts, his vanities on par with his occasional glories. A spirited presentation which as performed can change within different perspection, thus the first presentation merely sets the form. The end is merely another question, climaxing into audience and player becoming one. Having been impressed by the films at a late date in my life, of "Ammadeus" and "The Color Purple," I dedicate this idea to them, as milestones rather than tombstones. J.B.
Now about that idea of chess players on roller skates...I hear Nathan Hale is now working skid row, my how the mighty fall.
(*I propose a war room be done in preparing Simply Democracy film, following my outline, laying out how the film is to be developed, historical authenic costumes will have to be decided on, as well as the marketing of those as well as other elements of the film.
I do not have to be part of this procedure, if you think I want to be in a room full of Indians amidst film studio types, think again.)
Who could forget that scene in Close Encounters, when suddenly!, they all jump and roll a map globe? no, no, not me, I'm old and senile.
I hope Kevin Costner gets abducted by ETs and they use a 4x4 for his physical exam...Years ago, I lived in Bisbee, Az. and wrote huge amounts of poetry, which locals collected. I remember writing a poem that a proposed film be done featuring American Indian tribes, including the usage of subtitles below their native dialogue. I also wrote about how Indians would race buffalo. Costners "Dancing With Wolves" came out, and guess where the writer of the script came from with this work?, from Bisbee, Az., him working as a dishwasher there locally, no doubt, reading my collected works there. I had to leave in 1986, having been beaten and hospitalized by their drug cartel, he did his deed while I was fleeing for my life, homeless. At least, they could have credited me with the idea. (Aliens, I want that 4x4 rough timber, full of splinters.)
