Stormy waters swell beneath
life's long and dusty road
Overwhelmed by the floods
inside our hearts that grow ~
Riding the tumultuous rapid waves
engulfing us within
Wondering where to go from here,
is this where it all begins?

Searching never finding
the answers that we seek
Many things we long to know
the harvest that we'll reap ~
Believing that the only truth
is made by our own hand
That fate is our only destiny
not some greater master plan.

Tears fall from heaven to the Cross
as we turn our backs away
Swimming through the tumultuous tide
trying to find our way ~
All the answers for which we search
but still we refuse to see
That the only Truth to bridge the gap
is the one that will set us free.

But leading a horse to water
will not make it drink,
Just as giving food for thought
won't change the way one thinks ~
Only God can heal a heart
and change a man within
For only He can build the bridge
that leads us from our sin.

The troubled waters of our soul
flood us deep inside
Engulfed in trials, hurts and pain
that drown us in the tide ~
Desperate for a helping hand
to guide us from the depths
That overwhelm us as we swim
to the place we lost our step.

Life is what we make of it
but many refuse to see
For all the things that we have sown
one day we'll surely reap ~
But it was us who turned our backs
so we could do our thing
And all the while we did not believe
we had built our path to sin.

But in the midst of our storms
God's ever faithful hand
Reaches from within the clouds
showing He understands ~
Even though we turned away
still He chose to bear
The sins, the hurts and all our pain
because He truly cares.

Some may still refuse to see
and that may never change
But He believes in you and I
and His love remains the same ~
Despite the path we built for ourselves
He will bridge that space
Over the troubled waters of our lives
and into His embrace.

"This poem reflects on how we as humans think that our own way is best.   Many of us believe that we know ourselves better than anyone and that we know what we want and need more than anything or anyone else.   And there are so many people that believe that we all make our own destiny, and that it isn't the hands of some great master plan.   Yet, if all this were true, why then do we continue to search and search throughout life for the one thing that will make us happy and content?   Why do we continue to fall into unchartered waters that will overwhelm us with troubles, hurt and pain?   All these actions are our own doing....yet God sees every step we make, hoping that we will turn to Him for the answers, because only He has them.   We can't find them in the material things in life that we think we can.   It isn't in money, or treasures, or security, or health, or alcohol, or sex, or drugs....or whatever we seek the meaning of life in.   Only God has those answers, and despite the mistakes we make, He still waits for us to make that choice.   But regardless, He is always there.   And for us Christians, while some of us think that we can change the way people think just by telling them what we believe, only God can change a heart.   We can only pray for them, but God can change them, not us.   He is the one who can bridge the gap between sin and and life.   He is the one who can give us the security and answers for which we search....and only He can build that bridge for us to cross over those troubled waters.   The answer is in Him and His everlasting Truth."

This poem is dedicated to two people ~ Janey, who gave me the wisdom to see that I can't change the way someone thinks or believes....and to the other, who only God can change their heart, not me.
Thank you both for your inspiration ~ you know who you are.
