Two hearts that beat as one
as the years go by
A promise of the love we shared
memories of you and I ~
Written with the hands of time
never to fade away
Precious moments that we knew
memories of that day.

Devoted to a special promise
to always be like this
Sharing a love that will be
as gentle as a kiss ~
Together joining promises
to be eternally
Forever carved within time
initials in the tree.

Holding hands joined as one
together you and I
The love we share will never fade
as years they pass us by ~
Remembering every sacred vow
made in our hearts anew
Knowing that this love will last
as I share my life with you.

But time it quickly passes by
and those precious memories
Become heartaches as we begin
to always disagree ~
All the things we used to love
now frustrate us to the core
And suddenly we don't want a part
of this life anymore.

Tears fall slowly down my cheeks
as I stand here looking on
The path that I chose with you
wondering where did I go wrong?
I always kept my promises
to love you eternally,
And the initials that will always show
how much you mean to me.

Two hearts I thought would beat as one
memories that will stay
After all the years gone by
our love could never fade ~
Written with a heart of promise
for all eternity
My love was carved within the heart
our initials in the tree.

"A simple poem about a couple who promised their love for all eternity when they were but teenagers carving their initials in a tree.   But as life goes on and they grow, they begin to realise that life and love is not all a bed of roses....and so they begin to disagree.   They lose faith in one another and their love, which leaves them feeling reminiscent of their younger days and the promises they made.   All the things they used to love about each other now frustrates them, and leaves them feeling somewhat disillusioned.   But one thing is clear, despite their arguements with one another, their love remains, even if they find it hard to let each other know.   Their initials in the tree reflect the promise they made and that that has never changed.   Their love is for eternity....carved within the heart of time."
