Which way is the moon,
can you point to it and see
The beauty of its splendour
that shines so radiantly ~
Or do you see the darkness
casting weary shadows,
Can you tell me where it shines
its promise for tomorrow?

As you hold onto worries
reflecting in your mind
You cannot change what has been done
through the hands of time ~
Nor can you alter what's to come
that's not your choice to make
So don't think about the problems
that lay in disaster's wake.

You are not responsible
for problems that belong
To others' who make their mistakes
with choices that were wrong ~
There is no point in thinking
there was something you could do
To help change their path in life
when it could destroy you too.

Just stop for a minute
and close your weary eyes
Think about this moment
and point up to the sky ~
Can you tell me without looking
which way is the moon?
Or do you hold on to regrets
that there was something you could do?

Thinking about those problems
cannot change their paths
It only makes them greater
deepening the scars ~
For you have your own choice to make
to hold on or let them go,
For every weight doesn't rest
solely on you, you know.

So stop a while and bask within
the pale soft moonlight
Point towards the starry sky
and rest here for the night ~
Which way is the moon, you say,
as you reach to catch its glow
While captured in its radiant light
you let your problems go.

"This poem was inspired by a line from a TV program I was watching the other night.   He asked "Whish way is the moon?" to which she just flippantly pointed upwards.   But the point was should she worry about problems that she cannot change, problems that aren't hers to change, problems that haven't happened yet or should she just sit back and reflect in the moonlight.   If she was to bask in the moon's beauty then none of it would matter, and it would make it seem insignificant, and she would feel somewhat better.   But to worry about things she isn't responsible for or cannot change would take away the beauty she would be able to see in the moon....   That is too true.   Should we worry about things that we cannot change, that haven't happened, that may not happen, or things we aren't responsible for?   Or should we stop and take in the beauty and reach for the moon?   So, which way is the moon?   Do we know (besides up)?   Can we catch it and hold its beauty in our hearts, and reflect on that when we need to let our problems and our fears go?   Can you do it?   Next time you start to worry about things that are beyond your control, things you cannot change....reflect on the moon.   Catch its beauty....and let those problems go."
