Standing alone in solitude
listening to the wind
The breeze that whispers on my face
speaks to my heart within ~
As I hear the water at the edge
lapping on the shore
Waves releasing tension
I never knew before.
As I close my eyes and listen
to the voice inside my heart
Seeking answers from within
I don't know where to start ~
How did it come to be like this
after all these years,
Why did we let it slip away
and reduce ourselves to tears?
Something I always cherished
this friendship that we share
A special bond between us both
to which nothing could compare ~
Always there to listen
to each other's needs
An arm of comfort to shelter us
amidst our shattered dreams.
I always thought that we could share
in open honesty
For you said there should be no taboos
even if we don't agree ~
For within my own heart of hearts
I've struggled deep inside
With emotions lost in memories
that I had long denied.
But this wasn't meant to happen
as I tried to broach with you
The truth of what's become of us
but it seemed it was "taboo" ~
What followed then seemed to become
a hurtful painful war
Between us both as we exchanged
words we try hard to ignore.
Memories of our youthful days
this world of you and I
Too many dreams have come and gone
for this to be goodbye ~
How did we let it get this far
and how can we deny
The pain we've caused each other,
so what do we decide?
A journey that was meant to be
a time that we could heal,
To share the grief that we have known
and emotions that we feel ~
To put the past behind us
so we may start again,
In an effort to accept each other
as who we are as friends.
In standing here I watch the world
slowly pass me by
I wonder what you're thinking now
and if it's worth a try ~
And as the whisper of the breeze
embraces me within
The decisions I have yet to make
is where this road begins.
"Reflecting on an inner and literal struggle I am enduring currently, this poem deals again with the questions of "why?", "how?" and "what?" It shows a softer side rather than hasteful anger, and ponders on what to decide....decisions that we have made that have lead us to where we are today, and decisions that we have yet to make....and this indicates that this is truly where the road begins. In accepting one another once and for all for who we are and what we believe and respecting those thoughts and opinions....and that true friendship can conquer the tough times....if we so decide. Decisions are the key here. What we decide will shape our future as friends, and as individuals. And so the questions remain....the decisions and choices."
