They say that over every rainbow
is a pot of gold
That is the wealth that many seek;
a value to behold ~
With promises in riches
its welcome offering,
For he who finds this rich reward
a new life shall begin!

For he who climbs his mountains
and can see no way out
Begins to fear there's no escape
but just a cloud of doubt ~
If only he had the money
then all would be okay
He wouldn't need to worry
about each and every day.

She who's maxed her credit cards
on her shopping sprees
Spends up big on shoes and clothes
that no one gets to see ~
If only she had more money
to bring her happiness
She wouldn't feel so alone today,
dressed in her very best.

Then there's him who's dug himself deeper
on roulette and slot machines
Spending the money for groceries
waiting for that one big win ~
If only he had more money
he could pay off all his debts
Then his wife and kids could come back home
and this problem he'd accept.

No matter what their lifestyle
or their circumstance
People everywhere wish for more
wealth in abundance ~
They search for that pot of gold
at the end of their rainbows
With the hope that life will be
much easier than they know.

Their "rainbows" could be anything
from work to astrology
With people turning to the "stars"
with the hope they could see,
If wealth will soon come their way,
what predictions are in store?
But no matter how much they have
they'll always be wanting more.

People search for happiness
thinking the value of money
And that pot of treasured gold
could truly set them free ~
If only they could reach the rainbow
that offered rich sustain
In unlimited abundance,
life would be whole again.

But where is the end of the rainbow,
why is it beyond our reach?
What does it really offer us,
and what does it beseech?
What message is in those colours,
what is it that we see,
Is it only the value at the end
that is always out of reach?

Why do we never get to the place
where that treasured pot of gold
Lies at the end of our rainbows
a value to behold ~
Despite all our searching
why do we never reach,
The place of rich contentment
and abundant security?

There's a pot of gold at the end
of every rainbow, they say
But we can never find it
through the colourful display ~
But what people never realise
is the promise that's bestowed
Upon each and every one of us
through that colourful rainbow.

The "pot of gold" for which men search
is not material treasure
It's something that can't be bought or sold
and money could never measure ~
It's the gift of life abundant
that we may truly see
That money isn't everything
and it will never set you free.

For the man who wants more money
so he can make ends meet,
And the woman who believes her happiness
lay at the rainbow's feet ~
And the gambler who thinks it will solve
all his mounting debts;
Money may buy material wealth,
but not riches in happiness.

So remember when you see those colourful hues
that the only pot of gold
Laying upon the other side
is a promise to behold ~
Its richness and its treasure
is not material, you know,
But the wondrous promises of God
in that glorious rainbow.

"This poem has an important message in it that we may all learn from.   Money isn't everything!   Sure, it helps makes life more comfortable, and in this day and age it is essential (to a point), but it does not offer all that we hope it would.   But despite this, so many become enslaved to money, hoping to make more, to get more, to help make their life more comfortable.   But if they have the necessities in life that one cannot live without, then why is having more money essential to life?   There is so much pressure for children today to have the latest toys, X-Boxes, DVDs and whatnot.   Even adults feel it.   In turn, money becomes a "god" without them even realising it.   So many want more in life.   More money, more wealth....we live in a society of more, more, more for me, me, me!   "Me" comes first, and we must have money to make "me" more comfortable; to make life easier.  So people turn to gambling, even on scratchies and lotto, in the hope they will get that big win!   They look to the "stars" for answers in predictions of wealth.   These are all our "rainbows" in life.   We all search these things for that one "pot of gold"....that will help make us happier and more comfortable.   But does it happen?   Do we find it?   Many think they do....until it one day falls apart.   Nothing lasts forever.   Except the promises of God.   One of God's biggest and most awesome promises is the rainbow.   After the flood that Noah built the ark for all those years ago, back in the book of Genesis, a rainbow filled the sky....a promise from God that He will never send such a flood again to destroy the earth.   It is a promise that He loves us.   And in the colours of that rainbow, we find His promise....not of material wealth or treasurs, but of His love.   And that is the pot of gold to be found....but no one ever finds it, because it is not what they were looking for....it is something they can't see.   Proverbs 27:24a says, "For riches do not endure forever".   But God and His love does.   At the end of the rainbow we will find God's treasures, not those of the world, like money and possessions, but God.   HE endures forever."
