Friendship is the essence
of what life is all about
Always giving encouragement
in times of fear and doubt ~
Holding one another close
calming all our fears,
A friend is one whom we depend
throughout all our years.
I used to think that friendship
gave to us the needs
Of things we hoped and dreamed upon
shared by you and me ~
The nature of pure loyalty
and no need to pretend
The trusted strength shared by us
as dear devoted friends.
The bond that was between us
falls shattered to the floor,
Is this what has become of us,
is this where we close the door?
Do we turn our backs and walk away
and forget what once has been,
Or is it still worth fighting for ~
tell me, what does our friendship mean?
Faded memories of amity
blend into the past
Looking back on years gone by
we thought would always last ~
Is this now the end we see
looming before our eyes?
Or is it time to make a stand
in this world of you and I?
No longer can I reap the wages
as fingers point the blame
With my hands tied idly
behind my back again ~
You know it isn't all my fault
for I am not naive,
Why has it come to who's right or wrong;
is this how friends behave?
Friendship used to mean something
of trusted loyalty
The devotion and companionship
of faithful destiny ~
Listening with compassion
our thoughts and hopes we shared,
I used to think that frienship
was about showing how much we cared.
Now I feel disheartened
as I see what has become
Of the treasures that we have shared
as two friends who were one ~
No one is purely innocent
so why shift all the blame?
We're all human, we make mistakes
it only creates more pain.
But as emotions now divide us
where do we go from here,
Can we learn to accept our faults
without inflicting pain and tears?
It's sad to think we must compete
for faded memories,
A friendship that was sacred
once meant everything to me.

"This poem reflects on the faded memories of friendship. Though it is something I endure myself, I'm sure many others will find themselves relating to the words within the lines. These questions are aimed at one who may never hear them, yet we desire to know where to go from here? Do we turn our backs and walk away, or is the friendship worth fighting for? It always has been in the past ~ so what has changed? What idiosyncrasies have come our way to make us question the authenticity of a trusted devotion we once shared? What has happened to all we have shared? Are they just faded memories....or have they just dimmed our view?" |
