One night I had a vision
suspending me in time
I saw a bridge I'm crossing
so clear within my mind;

I paused to get my bearings
and yet I could not see
Where it was I was going
this path in front of me.

A chill within the evening
a mist had gathered round
Soon enveloping the bridge
with and eerieness I'd found;

Alone I felt suspended
yet rooted to the spot
I felt a choice before me
though I did not know what!

For this is not a crossroads
in which I choose my fate
By making the decision
about which road to take;

This is just one pathway
a bridge that stands alone
Waiting for the promise
to trust where I shall roam.

An uneasiness swept over me
with every step I took
As over every precipice
and stumbling block I looked;

For the path seemed very narrow
and the bridge so very long,
I wondered if this journey
was the right one I was on?

The mist was all-enveloping
so that the other side
I couldn't see in front of me
it seemed like I was blind;

But still I kept on walking
making my way across
And hoping on this endless bridge
that I would not be lost.

Then through the shadowed darkness
there seemed to be a light
As if shining through a tunnel
and yet still glowing bright;

A vision of my journey
right before my eyes
Gave me an understanding
that came as a surprise.

I stood before the brilliance
that shone in front of me
And without hesitation
opening my eyes to see;

The endless bridge I journey
as I make my way across
Is the difference between this life we know
and Eternity, via the Cross.

"This is a metaphoric poem about our journeys in life.   It's about faith and it's about turst.   The Bridge represents the gap between sin (eternal death) and Eternity (eternal Life).   The Bridge represents the Cross, which is the path and bridge from this life into Eternity.   Though sometimes clouded it seems we sometimes can't see our way, many times we must rely on faith to see us through.   Faith and trust that we will be safe upon that bridge alone through the storms of life, over stumbling blocks and obstacles in our way.   Though we may feel like we are stumbling blind, there is a light that shines on us, guiding our way across that bridge if only we open our eyes in faith to see.   And it's then that we see the bridge isn't so endless after all....but a path into Eternity."
