LINEAR THOUGHT
2/10/2001
Over There,
they obsess a lot on time,
breaking it down to 2 decimals.
I bet they have over 30 clocks
on 4 floors,
each one telling a different time.
Lunch Time
Break Time
Education Time
Meeting Time,
where you report what time you've used
performing tasks.
Over Here,
I prune my Roses back in the mid-Winter,
hoping for buds later.

SOJOURN IN A THUNDERSTORM
1992
Lightning flashed incessantly,
it's blue-white energy
renewing all
across the valley
with the power
of life itself.
The rain fell in sheets
against the black
of Midnight.
Caught in the strobe of the dance,
I pass,
unnoticed.

SWAHILI SUNSET
1992
Grand Panther sings
of the tribe
when it was young,
as it is now.
I hunt the Gazelle with the bow
he helped me make.
The Moon rises in the season
of the easy times.
Life is good:
there is time
to hear The Songs Of Life.
Late into the night,
our young play
at the game,
learning the Song
without thinking;
as we did.

THE DROUGHT OF 1999
8/29/1999
Driving I-77 North
that middle of July,
I remember stretches
of browns and yellows,
predominant,
gasping for a drink,
yet a few miles further,
the rain had greened
the rolling hills
to verdant life.
My Dad always held,
the ones who got the rain
always paid the preacher.
He never failed
to tythe.
