THE LOOKING GLASS

She paused before the window
mesmerized by what she saw
A young girl with a bonnet,
when did she get so tall?
Her hair had turned to blonde,
when, she didn't know
The little girl she used to be,
where did she go?

Emerald eyes stared back at her
with lashes long and thick
Her skin had suddenly turned golden,
was the sun playing a trick?
The picture in the window
was a young girl she didn't know
But when she looked closer,
the memories began to flow

The impish grin her Daddy loved
was still upon her face
The lips had been colored pink,
but she still saw a trace
Of a little girl from yesterday,
with pink bows in her hair
The one that used to run and play
and didn't have a care

Enchanted with the image,
she smiled and turned away
Perhaps the window was playing tricks,
she couldn't have grown in just a day
