TEARDROPS ON THE ROSE

The rose lay by the roadside,
its petal wet with rain
Or maybe it was teardrops
that lingered there in pain
The red rose held a story
that many have not heard
It was dropped there by a man,
to lay there in the dirt

Her beauty was magnificent,
her heart so sweet and pure
He gave his heart completely
to the woman he adored
At night he held her in his arms
and whispered of his love
And in the morning he kissed her face
as gently as he could

The years passed all too quickly,
it seemed like only days
And then they both grew old
and her black hair turned to gray
Where once there was a young girl,
now she had grown old
But he would never give her up
not even for precious gold

He held her gently in his arms
and whispered in her ear
"I can't go on alone without you,
please don't go my dear"
Her blue eyes looked intently
upon his weathered face
" She said, you are my only love,
now I must go and wait "

He walked along the dirt road,
warm tears rolled down his face
The rose he held so gently,
that he had tied with lace
And then he saw her standing there,
her face so young and sweet
And he reached out to give the rose,
to the one he came to meet

They found him by the roadside,
the rose lay near the man
It seemed that he was reaching,
as if to grasp a hand
The fragrance drifted softly
upon the Autumn morn
Once again he'd found his love ,
and now they could go on
