THE MAGIC BOX

Stars filled the room as I sat in awe
After opening the lid to the box I saw
It sat all alone in the room upstairs
It belonged to my mom when she was here

When I was a child, I could listen for hours
To the stories she told of when she was a child
She told of a box filled with magic and dreams
And she said one day I would know what it means

The years flew by and the stories forgotten
As I grew to a woman and left fantasies behind
Momma left one night as she slept in her bed
Without mentioning the box where her dreams she left

I stood alone in the room upstairs
Fascinated by the box that she'd left for me there
Inside lay pictures, momentos and jewels
Along with a note, with my name in gold

It was filled with love and memories
Of a child and a loving family
And I realized with tears in my eyes
That the magic she left was in my mind
