| Circle Community Centre Cabaret Night Every Friday, 9pm Formerly St. Georges Theatre Tufnall Park Road (between Tufnall Park Tube and Holloway Rd) A new venue on the block! This is a church converted into a theatre in the 60's and currently squatted by some approachable rainbow types keen to make a go of it as a legitimate performance space. Every friday is cabaret night. Its free(donations) and open mic, sign up at 9pm goes on till late. The buildings extraordinary space (60 foot round room, 4 ft stage, 3 banks of pro lighting and good p.a) has attracted and retained some pretty class acts in the last month Simon Munnery- a comedian's comedian performed his new funny poems. Nic Revell- channel 4 writer and stand up performed his Edinburgh set plus new experimental material. Salena Saliva godden-renowned renaissance woman of performance dropped some of her trademark sauce and duetted with... Katous- welsh/czech singer songwriter of considerable virtuosity and volume. Yap- incendiary, philosophical agit-prop poetics. Sir Gideon Vein- warped, anarchic, unhinged and hilarious. Bob Boyton - reading from his novel/one man play of gritty east end wideboys. Marcus Downe- unusually sober and dropping some politically wrong sex politics and high tales of low life. All this and a bunch of sweet hippie singer/songwriters whos names escape me. If you want to join in or see about promoting yer own event, go downe an chat to them. An incredible venue and some great performance talent. Reviewed by Marcus Downe |
