In the dimness of Christmas lights, sitting hidden behind the tree, she is opening the obscured package, creamy heavy paper, ribbons uncurled. Delight, twinkling eyes, grinning face, trembling hands, and mist... Perfume greets abdicated memory. The mist is generous, memory devine. A pocketed treasure, no crime, only vestige of privilige. A mature woman, chaptered, experienced, as complicated as a well written book doesn't need permission to remember pleasure, to eat her cake before supper, or to sneak into a Christmas present intended only for her. |
