by K. Violet * 2002
The hand draws the hand,
then picks up a pen.
But both begin to sweat,
palms extended for surgery.
Fear and bravery guide them,
one palm to massage brain tissue
while the other goes to work,
drawing blood, sampling tissue
for examination, understanding
and exposure to the light.
The audience oooos and aaaahs
as mysteries of yesterdays are
revealed,  the players, the scars,
long wooded trails, and hope.
Patient's hands and surgeon's touch
give insight and understanding that
ease suffering and light the path.
