Introducing The Panel Pot from the Poly Pot Company
The Poly Pot, a revolutionary concept in prawn/shrimp potting, came onto the market in March 2001 and its standard of engineering, robustness and quality of catch has impressed those who have used it. It is designed to catch the common prawn, or shrimp to those in Scotland and Ireland.
The pot on Close up inspection is in effect a cylinder made up of 8 panels and 2 end cones a bait tube and 2 door flaps, 1 sealing the bait tube hole and the second, sealing the emptying hole, 2 rubber bands and 2 hooks are fitted to the doors to complete the pot. When purchased as flat pack each part slips exactly into place and special plastic locking bolts, supplied, lock each panel securely into place.

The Panel Pot has been carefully designed to have a very smooth finish inside and where the catch can sometimes get stuck in the corners of other pots, there is no mesh, for the catch to cling to, in the corners of the panel pot thus minimizing the damage to the catch. The pot has a built-in mesh of 10 mm square allowing small prawns to escape, The smooth surface at the start of the entrance cone stops the entry of small crabs and hermit crabs that would otherwise eat the bait and damage the catch. As a result, the cleaner catch reduces the sorting time. The importance of maintaining catch quality is crucial to getting the best price per kilo.
Although the Panel Pot is very robust there will, eventually be wear and tear and even storm damage. The simplicity of the design allows only the damaged panels to be removed and replaced quickly and economically. Therefore after a damaging gale which in the past destroyed whole fleets, pots can be repaired with new panels or by recycling the salvaged write-offs. Poly pot's plastic Nephrops Pot is Undergoing sea trials and the initial reports are very encouraging. This Pot is built to the same high standards and with the same replaceable panel concept, which is now available.
The panel pot can he supplied ready for use or flat pack with assembly instructions. The ready to fish Panel Pot merely needs the drilling of holes to attach the pot to a spinner, which can be included in the package.
