BURIED EMOTIONS

We laugh
beneath trees in new leaf
blossoms releasing nectar
attracting bees
honey makers incensed with greed
grief encountered briefly
as we dismiss silent woes
chuckling among the mounds of earth
we shovel emotions
six feet under ground
dying inside coldly placed
upon an icy shelf
to later view as mementos
long past
we laugh

BECOMING COLDER NOW

Rows of paling corn
Stalk the greener pastures beyond
Rolls of hay mimic giant loaves of bread
Steaming in the early morning sun

…my heart is buried

beneath the falling of the autumn leaves
blood red tears from sugar maples trees
bathe my wounds
as they cascade down
smothering

O tender heart
I will miss you so!

Your empty nest
Feathered now with stones…
Cold and gray and dead

SIMPLY HEAT WITH A SMOKY HAZE

She stood at an open window
frozen
eyes flat glass
tears turned to ice
reflecting
fires of hell
burning
closer still
until thawed
one tiny tear
loosened
a falling spark igniting a blaze
creeping up the filmy curtains
to the trembling hand
that gripped a rose gone black
consuming her
held in brimstones embrace
she shivered
she danced
she pleased
her hair glowed with flames
not a halo not a moon beam
simply heat
enveloping, embracing, embalming
forever preserving
hades gaze
in eyes no longer glassy
but filled with a smoky haze. . .

BITTER AWAKENING

Another day weeping
Into a pale flat sky
Another day of uncaring
Winds sweeping the wails away while
Traveling the outskirts of yet another dying town
One more day of grief echoing midst the empty canyon bed
Painting landscapes in bleak and cold sighs
Day after day falling into the aspens quaking arms
Awakening with the bitter taste of blood upon the lips
Then wandering the byways alone
Trailing words that dry into a chalky residue
Blowing away like autumn leaves without a trace
Another day
Lost in the vast plains of unseeing eyes
Just another day
