Today, March 3, 2003, the restart of the 2003 Iditarod was held for the first time ever in Fairbanks, Alaska. My mom took me to watch the re-start. We started our morning by hopping in the car and driving to the Carlson Center to hop on the shuttle bus. We were about 2 minutes away from the Carlson Center when my mom said she forgot the camera. We both wanted to go back and get it, but we would have missed the shuttle bus, so we hoped that someone in our group had a camera with them. We made it just in time. We hopped on the Princess Cruise Bus and headed to Pikes Waterfront Lodge for the re-start of the race. We got their early so we were able to go get a souvenier while at Pikes Waterfront Lodge. After getting a sweatshirt for me, my mom, and dad, my mom and I walked on the frozen river and headed down about a half mile from where they were starting the race. We had a great view of the mushers as they were leaving the starting gate. We would have gotten some nice pictures, but we didn't have the camera.
In The News
Today we found out my mom's name was in the paper. Can you guess which one she is when you read the first paragraph? I bet you can. You can see her name further down. Go to Anchorage Daily News to read it.
Mushers We Want To Win
The musher I want to win the 2003 Iditarod is Cali King. Cali is 18 and this is her first Iditarod race. She has run in the Junior Iditarod though. Cali's father is Jeff King. Jeff is a 3 time winner of the Iditarod.
My mom wants Martin Buser to win this years race. Martin is a 4 time Iditarod champion and won the race last year. He also became a US citizen last year.
