Helen Avakian with the late great Michael Hedges. This picture was taken at the Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling NY at one of Michael's last performances. Michael Hedges was an amazing musician who played guitar as if he were from some other planet. I can't really begin to describe his percussive style of playing. He just changed what we thought could be done with a guitar! I'm saddened I'll never see him perform again.Michael Hedges was an inspiration for many, though few have mastered this style. The Hudson Valley's own Brian Gallaway is one of the best at this percussive style. Brian had been to a number of Michael's live shows. I've only been to one, and Hedges' CD's unfortunately do not capture his true sound in my opinion - that's one of my gripes with the Windom Hill label. Brian's own home recorded CD, and his studio CD capture more of this dynamic sound than some studio made Hedges CD's. Brian Gallaway and Helen are good pals, and did one show together, so look through the gallery for pics from that historic show.
