John McCutcheon is Amazing! Normally, when someone plays multiple instruments, you can easily tell which is their main instrument. I think John really has 4 or 5 "main" instruments. He is just outstanding on anything he touches - hammered dulcimer, guiar, autoharp, piano, banjo, body drumming (don't ask - you'll have to see him in concert!) He is also a teriffic singer, songwriter and interpreter of other's music. He was influenced by Woody Gutherie when he started out and he keeps a lot of those ideals alive in his own music.
This picture with Helen was taken at the Summer 2000 Poughkeepsie Folk Festival on the Hudson River, where both Helen and John performed. It was sponsored by the Highland Cultural Center. John is not only a great musician, but he also recognizes and appreciates talent in others - as can be seen above by some of he company he kept that day!
