| WebMaster Jamie "PoBoy" Roberts I am a great-grandson of a civil war veteran. How did that happen you say? My great-grandfather was a member of the 7th Miss. infantry. He was from Amite county Mississippi. Being widowed after the war he remarried. In 1890! What's more the lady was almost 40 years younger than he. She was from the Evangeline Parish area here in cajun country. (note: In La. counties are called parishes). Here they settled and the family is still here. My grandfather was born in 1892, and at age 29 his wife gave him a son (my father). I was born in 1961. So, you see, the war was not that long ago, if you look at it like that. | An active Camp in Arizona today, having been chartered as a Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans on March 16, 1990, the 129th anniversary of the secession of Arizona from the Union in 1861. The Camp is named for Colonel Sherod Hunter who, as a Captain, commanded the only force of Confederate troops to enter the confines of modern Arizona during the War for Southern Independence.
