Vin Diesel

Vin is one of the newest That Guys on the block, making his movie debut in 1997 and having less than ten film credits on his resume. But his notable performances as the ill-fated Private Carpazo in Saving Private Ryan (you'll remember him as the soldier killed while rescuing the little French girl) and as the anti-hero of the underrated Pitch Black earn him a place on the list.

Born to a theater teacher father and an astrologist mother, Diesel (real name Mark Vincent, he's vague about his "complicated" ethnic background), broke into the business by writing, directing, and starring in the critically acclaimed short film Multi-Facial, then starring and directing in the independent feature Strays. Saving Private Ryan marked his debut in a studio film, and he's since then appeared in Boiler Room, a Wall Street drama in which he managed to hold his own against star Ben Affleck, and lent his voice to the title character in the unfairly overlooked feature-length cartoon The Iron Giant. Vin has four films slated for release between 2001 and 2003, so it looks as if he won't be worrying about finding work for a while.
