2004 Ballot Statement

Name: Kristi Porter, Incumbent
Age: 57
Occupation: Homemaker
Office: Governing Board Member, Oak Grove School District

It has been my privilege to serve you and the students of the Oak School District for the past eight years. I am asking for your support to continue the progress we have made to improve our schools with a focus on student success, school safety and fiscal responsibility.

Our accomplishments during this time include: 14 of our schools receiving California Distinguished School Awards; A Five-Year Plan to meet student performance objectives; All schools meeting the State's Academic Performance Index targets; Algebra and Geometry completion among the highest in the Santa Clara County; 20-1 Class Size in grades K-3; Full-day Kindergarten; Art, Music, and After-school Sports programs; Modernizing schools with new playgrounds, bathrooms, technology and libraries; Developing Partnerships with community, business, and educational groups; and over 90% of our teachers fully credentialed.

As my seven children progressed through this district I recognized the many challenges we face as a community, as parents, and families. We need sound leadership and a vision to meet the educational needs of every child in our District. With your vote, I will continue my dedication to policies that promote high academic performance, assure fiscal responsibility, provide safe school environments, embrace diversity, and welcome parent involvement.
