POQUOSON ISLAND PLAYERS

Peter Pan (musical)
## Director of a Musical: Kimberly Vernall
## Choreography: Dana Margulies and Nick Stowers
## Lead Actor: Nicholas Sotack as Peter Pan
## Nicholas Sotack is a very talented individual who took the role and made it his own. He has an amazing voice that you never forget and his acting is extraordinary. He is also well on his way to becoming an excellent dancer. This was the perfect role for him and he truly played it to the maximum proficiency. The production was excellent, but I think that Nicholas was the best part of the show.
## Peter Pan was one of the most enjoyable productions I have seen in a long time. My children, who find it difficult to sit through many shows, stayed riveted and thoroughly entertained the entire time. I would suggest Nicholas Sotack receive a nomination for his portrayal of the title character. He has an amazing singing voice, but also handled all other aspects of the role, including the physical demands of dancing, running, turning cartwheels, and of course, the flying, which I thought he handled beautifully. He acted the role wonderfully and made a real connection to the children in the audience. It was also so refreshing to see the role played by a male. On the whole, the production was entertaining, colorful, funny, thoroughly enjoyable and very entertaining for people of all ages. I think the Poquoson Island Players and director Kimberly Vernall deserve some recognition for producing such a wonderful production of a technically demanding show, especially for using a flying rig. If they had run another weekend I would definitely have gone back a second time. I really can't say enough good things about it.
## Newcomer: Grey Davenport (seen as Michael Darling)
## Although this show was the first for this young man, you'd never know it by seeing his performance! At 8 years old, Grey Davenport had the playfulness and also polish that his character required. He comes across wonderfully onstage and you could tell he truly enjoyed what he was doing. Where other newcomers might appear nervous (especially at the "flying" aspect), Grey did not and was able to deliver his performance with ease.
## Newcomer: Sydney Simpson (seen as Tiger Lily)
## Sydney Simpson played the supporting role of Tiger Lily, Indian Princess. While Sydney's role is not a major one, her contribution to the play was immeasurable. She is a great dancer, with wonderful instincts and stage presence. Her comedic timing and facial expressions never failed to amuse and delight the audience. I think she did not just "play" Tiger Lily . . . she WAS Tiger Lily, in the true spirit of the play. She never made fun of her lines, but believed them, and so when she proclaims that ". . . Peter Pan is the Sun, the Moon and the Stars!" we all believe her.
They are having a great time in Poquoson, and we now all believe we can truly fly! I believe Tiger Lily is the sun, the moon and the stars!
I would also like to nominate
Kim Vernall as outstanding director for Peter Pan. She has held together a wonderful play with many difficult technical details, changes in cast, and summer schedules. She has done all of this with grace, dignity and a caring attitude. She has brought a fun, moving little play to life by encouraging her actors and techies . . . bravo!
## On the subject of Peter Pan, I would like to see Poquoson Island Players get some type of recognition for this production. Due to damages sustained from Hurricane Isabel last fall, they have not been able to put on a production since last summer. This production was wonderfully staged, and was very timely in its showing. It was just the kind of show that the peninsula community needed after such devastation. And it was very well received by its audiences. A true family show that mesmerized both young and old.
