- Mark all boxes, designating room and box number.
- Keep box weight to 50 pounds or less; it makes moving a lot easier.
- Good rule of thumb is the heavier the item the smaller the box.
- Mark fragile items in large easy to read letters "FRAGILE"
- Dishes, pictures and record albums should be packed on end vertically,rather than placed flat and stacked. Wrap dishes in bubble wrap.
- Pack an essentials box.
- Label boxes on top and sides of boxes and be detailed.
- Try to avoid newspaper with print especially on lamp shades as the ink can rub off.
- Items may remain in drawers for transport, but do not overload.
- Also remove any fragile or small loose items in drawers.
- Long handled garden tools may be bundled together and tied or taped together for transport, this pertains to curtain rods, and bed frames as well.
- All gasoline and oil must be drained from any tools or machinery that is to be transported, such as lawn mowers, chain saws and leaf blowers.
- Batteries must be disconnected, and propane tanks must be disposed of properly.
