Dear Senator Feinstein:
I am a citizen of California, a resident of the 26th District, a lifetime Democrat and one of over 50 million Americans who voted for Al Gore, Joe Lieberman and their agenda.
I also belong to several grassroots Democratic activist groups that have sprung up over the Internet during the past few months, with a combined membership of over 10,000,000 voters. We have been discussing the recent media coverage that has suggested that the Democrats in Congress are willing to cooperate to the fullest extent with the Bush administration to get its Far Right agenda passed.
I cannot state how strongly I, and all the Democrats in these groups, oppose such a plan. We feel very strongly that the Bush administration is not legal, that there were massive civil rights abuses in the Florida election, including two unpunished felonies committed by Republican officials (the absentee ballot application tampering in Seminole and Martin counties) and that the Supreme Court ruling is an assault on our basic civil rights. We feel that over 50 million Americans have been disenfranchised by Mr. Bush’s legal maneuverings, and for the Democratic Party to aid him in achieving his agenda would be adding insult to injury.
Therefor, as a constituent, I urge you in the strongest terms possible to fight for the following in the next Congress:
1.) Investigate voting rights abuses nationwide and prosecute anyone found guilty of working to disenfranchise American citizens to the fullest extent of the law.
2.) Provide Federal assistance so that every American uses the most modern equipment for voting. If electronic ("touch screen" etc.) voting systems are implemented, insure that there are at least two paper copies for backup - - one copy for the voter and one copy for the election officials.
3.) Pass the McCain/Feingold campaign finance bill and override Mr. Bush’s threatened veto.
4.) Stop Mr. Bush’s proposed tax cuts from being implemented.
5.) Do not approve a single Federalist Society nominee for the Federal Judiciary. There must be no more Ted Olsons, no more Ken Starrs, no more Antonin Scalias. Any judicial nominee must be rigorously investigated to ensure that they are not connected to any other extreme Right Wing group.
Thank you very much for your time and attention in this matter.
