Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach Sunrise

There may be a lot of things to do at Myrtle Beach, but we decided to watch sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean.

We not only watched sunrise, but we ate at nice restaurants. We began to notice restaurants referred to as Calabash Seafood and Calabash buffets. There is a place called Calabash, North Carolina that is near Myrtle Beach. The area prides itself as the "Seafood Capital of the World." Calabash style apparently refers to a method of frying seafood. The Original Benjamin's Calabash Seafood Restaurant was nearby and is where we had dinner.

Jim believes the best hamburgers anywhere can be found at the pyramid-shaped Hard Rock Cafe in Myrtle Beach--the only HRC in the world built in this shape. We had lunch there and even with his failing hearing, his ears are still ringing, but the burgers were as good as ever.

After the sun rose above the horizon, Jim was concerned about pointing the camera at the sun so he tried to hide behind the pier for different effect. We tried to capture incoming backlit waves splashing against piers. The images look better in a larger format than seen here.
