The Explorer program is a division of the Boy Scouts of America. It is a program that allows hands on training and experience to young men and women between the ages of 14 (who have completed the 8th grade) and 20 who have an interest in the law enforcement field. These young men and women are able to participate in a ride along program with actual police officers and watch them handle calls. The Explorers get to view the career to help them decide if that is the career field for them. Many of our past Explorers have gone on to pursue a career in law enforcement, and some are currently officers at the police department now. If accepted into the explorer program, the individual explorer is responsible for paying an annual $7.00 participation fee to the Boy Scouts of America and uniform expenses.
Explorer uniforms include a light blue uniform shirt with explorer patches, black uniform pants, black boots and a black trouser belt (black tie also required for long sleeve winter uniforms). Optional items include a duty belt, handcuff case and handcuffs, flashlight ring, belt keepers and a radio holder. |
