The surf pounded (as it is wont to do) on the white sands of the
island of Jamaica. The two lovers sat, side-by-side, on a lonely
rock far from sight of any other human being they were aware of. A
breeze ruffled their hair, fluttering her skirts, tinged with salt
and warm with the glowing sun. It was perfect, except for one thing.
"I still don't understand how he could do it…by all means, he should
have been caught by now!"
"You don't want him to get caught, do you?"
"No…what I meant is, he's simply remarkable…it's next to impossible
that he could actually come back here so...unhidden, and not even get
caught. How does he do it? And, why did he come back?"
"You see, love, this is precisely the sort of thing I do so well,
simply because, I am, after all, *Captain* Jack Sparrow…or have you
forgotten?"
Will and Elizabeth jolted around.
"Jack! What are you doing here? How long have you been there?"
"Hold on a moment, my boy, too many questions! I'll start at the
beginning, because that's where one usually starts, you see, how did
I get here and how long have I been here really aren't as pressing to
you right now, and I can see, as compares to *why* am I here. So, I
will proceed. Over there, is a proposition." Jack waved a hand at
the distant natural bay.
"I don't see anything."
"Ah, my boy, but you will, you just have to go a little closer. I
pride myself at an excellent choice of harbor, it's perfectly hidden…"
Elizabeth brightened up. "The `Black Pearl!'"
"Well, a ship, indeed. But what the next thing you wanted to know is
how I got here, I believe…"
"I see it now! You crept into the ball knowing that no one would
question your presence since it was a masquerade, and everybody was
costumed as remarkable characters anyway!"
Jack paused a moment.
"You know, that's not a bad idea, me boy…"
"You mean that wasn't how you planned it?"
"If you recall, I did get tossed out anyway."
"Well…what was your plan, then?" inquired Elizabeth.
"Now, I believed that no one would count on me coming back…so, I
didn't need to disguise meself if no would believe they saw me if
they saw me. It makes perfect sense to follow a plan that makes no
sense because no one would ever do that, so no one's prepared.
Savvy?"
"That's hardly an explanation!"
Will turned to Elizabeth. "Can anyone really explain anything Jack
does?"
Jack cocked an eyebrow. "Now, follow me, little boys and girls, and
I'll show you why I needs you…"
