1633 - James II is born. 1635 - Connecticut is settled. 1642 - The English Civil War breaks out. 1649 - Oliver Cromwell establishes a Puritan Government in England. 1650 - Cromwell conquers Scotland and Ireland; he unites the British Isles. 1658 - Oliver Cromwell dies and the Puritan Government collapses. 1659 - James II marries Anne Hyde. 1660 - The English Parliament restablishes monarchy and Chalres II sits on the throne. 1664 - England takes New Amsterdam (New York) away from the Dutch. 1665 - The Great Plague kils 75,000 people in London. 1666 - The Great Fire in London. 1668 - James II accepts the Roman-Catholic communion. 1673 - James II opposes the Test Act of 1673, which requires all public officials to take sacrament from the Church of England. 1682 - Pennsylvania founded by William Penn. 1685 - James II sits on the English throne. 1687 - Declaration of Toleration, allowing Roman-Catholics fill public office positions. 1688 - Declaration of Indulgence stated the kings wishes for his subjects to be apart of the Church of which he belonged to; refused to be read by seven archbishops. 1688 - Wiliam of Orange invades England; he and his wife Mary take over the English throne. 1688 - James II is over-thrown during the Glorious Revolution, still remains the absolute monarch of Ireland. 1689 - The English Bill of Rights is compiled. 1690 - James II looses the battle of Boyne in Ireland against William of Orange and is sent into exile at Louis XIV's court for the rest of his life. 1701 - James II dies of cerebral hemorrhage. |
