As a MS aspirant...

"I hope that some of the students here become renowned scientists and researchers in the future. There are students here having the potential to make my hopes come true. Prabhu Jude, I expect something special from you in the future: a new invention, a new instrument, a new theory". These were the words of the Department Chair, Dr.P.Kanagasabapathy when he addressed a gathering of pre-final year students. These words from a Professor who has more than two decades of experience in the field of Instrumentation and Control were not just a piece of appreciation for me; it helped me to realize my potentials.

Every engineer, every scientist, every technocrat has the sole aim of making the world a better place to live in by inventing new technologies and improving the existing technologies. As an aspiring Engineer, I am no exception to this noble trend. I want to pursue my graduate study to provide myself a strong foundation from whereon I can join the millions of engineers around the world trying to make subtle but significant changes in technology and if possible to revolutionize technology by their inventions.

In spite of working as a Software Engineer in one of the most respected companies in India with a very handsome pay, I have no second thoughts on going for my graduate study rather than sticking to my job. Even before joining Infosys, I had made this decision of doing my graduate study after a year at Infosys. For me, this one year at Infosys is just a preparation phase to cope up with the academic and professional challenges that a graduate may encounter in his career. I think I have made the best advantage of this one year by learning the professional way of dealing with things alongside gaining software knowledge from Infosys.

I feel that employment should be a consequence of knowledge and not the purpose of learning. My aspiration to do a graduate course is purely to gain an in-depth knowledge in my areas of interest -
Robotics, Control and Artificial Intelligence, so that I may use these technologies fruitfully and effectively in future. I think that I have prepared a strong foundation in my under graduation to generate enough potentials to fulfill my aim. In spite of this strong foundation, I feel that undergraduate knowledge is not sufficient for an aspiring technocrat, who wants to get more out of science. I should tell that my undergraduate course has transformed my aim of doing a Masters degree from a childhood dream to a matured professional passion. I feel that an in-depth knowledge in the field of interest is required to convert an engineer's dream to reality.  "Find the purpose, the means will follow" were the words of Mahatma Gandhi. For me to achieve my professional goals, a M.S in my research area is a definite need.
