Prairie-Made Farm Newsletter

Spring is finally here!  Garden plans are well underway and I am looking forward to getting things growing!  The Market Garden will continue this year with much higher hopes over last year in terms of weather and yield.  The list of vegetables is long and getting longer as planting day approaches. Here's just some of what I'll be putting in: Beans, beets, cabbage (3 types), cantaloupe, carrots, corn, cucumbers (slicing and pickling), herbs, kohlrabi, lettuce (several types), muskmelon, onions, peppers (green and jalapeno), pumpkin, radish (3 types), spinach, swiss chard, tomatoes (3 types) and zucchini (green and gold). As well, I am trying a couple different cut flowers this year.

You will be able to find me at Pineridge Hollow's NEW Farmers Market this year.  www.pineridgehollow.com  It starts July 2nd and runs until mid September, every Saturday morning from 9 am to 1 pm., rain or shine.  I'll be selling produce (of course!) and my homemade bread and buns. You will also be able to get vegetables from me regularly Saturday starting July 2nd in the afternoons (after the Farmers Market) from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the farm, rain or shine.  That is the time that stands now, but I may be adjusting that later as need dictates.  If there is something specific you need, or would like to request, don't hesitate to call, you are more than welcome to come by anytime during the week.  Just prior to July 2,  I will start updating the website weekly to let you know what is available from the garden and how much it costs.

There are 27 eggs in my incubator!  They are due to hatch May 4.  We'll see if anything comes of that.  If it does, I will have Buff Orpington hens and roosters for sale.  This is a dual purpose breed,  gold in color, the hens lay large brown eggs, and are very docile, which makes them a good backyard chicken.  You can find more info on chickens for sale on the website after May 4.

Eggs are still for sale as usual.  The hens are more than a year old, which means the eggs are bigger than ever!  They are definitely considered "jumbo" size but still for the same price of $1.50 a dozen. I do have some young hens so you will get the odd "medium" sized egg.  They are available by call or by chance, please bring empty egg cartons when you come.
