Diamonds found near Cobalt, Ontario.
Prairie C Resource Property Development, a 5 year veteran of mineral exploration in the Cobalt, Ontario area, is pleased to report positive results for diamonds in Archean lamprophyre on their claims held in the vicinity of the Cobalt and Silver Center Miining Camps. Geochemical analysis and subsequent stripping work during the 2000 season identified a large number of near surface and surface occurrances of this rock. Archean lamprophyres are known to host diamonds in such areas as Wawa Ontario, TheYukon and Northwest Territories. Following the compilation of our year 2000 exploration program ,Kennecott Canada Explorations, Thunderbay lab, was chosen due to their expertise and leadership in diamond research, to recieve a sample for analysis.
The following Preliminary results were returned:
1 - 22.2 kg sample submitted for caustic fusion and recovery found 3 diamond fragments. The fragments were irregular and two showed octahedral characteristics.
4 -hand specimens underwent detailed petrographic - electron microprobe analysis. Initial results indicate that these samples bear many chemical and physical similarites to the Sandor type occurrances near Wawa Ontario.
Additional analysis of this local occurance is underway. These claims are located around a northeast trending fault, which is perpendicular to the Cross Lake Fault. This ideal setting, within the Lake Temiskaming Structural Zone is considered very favourable and has the potential for more significant diamond discovery.
In addition to Prairie Cs diamond discovery, a number of base metal showings have been determined and a number of targets for silver/cobalt mineralization have been identified southeast of the Cobalt Mining Camp. A number of conductors and strong magnetic features have been located and additional work programs are planned for these areas in the current season.
Prairie C believes that this discovery brings closer an exciting new potential for this region.
