March 2002 -- "Mommy, The Ripster isn't your kitty anymore. He's mine,"  my seven-year-old son announced Saturday morning and with that he picked Ripley up and carried him to his room. I had a little chuckle and figured that Ripley would soon tire of Lego and Matchbox cars and return to my lap where he belonged. But that didn't happen.

Later, when it came time for bed, my son tucked Ripley in with him
Again I assumed that the Devon would tollerate this kidlove for a short time and then join me between my flannel sheets. But he didn't.

My two boys were inseparable all weekend.

My heart was warmed doubly. As if she knew her Devon duty, Aylen Rose has replaced Ripley as my body warmer. My wild little tiger girl has suddenly mellowed into a Persianwannabe. And we were inseparable all weekend.

Ah, the love of a Devon!

Our first Devon, 8 Weeks Old
Quadrupal Grand Champion Alter Capilano's Ripley of PrairieDawn is a chocolate smoke, neuter. I show Ripley in the Alter class at TICA shows.  Many thanks to my mentor, Cheryl Dunsmore, Capilano Devon Rex, for this special boy and for her hours of assistance and patience as I learn all I can about Devons.

Do you want to become a breeder of pedigreed cats? Consider showing an alter as you begin to learn. Seek out an ethical mentor with cats you love so you will have an expert to help you make good choices in the beginning. Breeding cats -- especially Devons! -- is not easy. Its good to have some "old pros" in your corner.
Ode to Ripley

Boy, when you drape your body across mine,
Gaze lovingly into my eyes
And bring your face so close I can feel your breath,
I know you must have been human in a past life.
