Austin Powers International Man Of Mystery
Dir: Jay Roach (1997)
Starring: Mike Myers, Elizabeth Hurley, Michael York, Mimi Rogers, Robert Wagner and Seth Green.
Austin Powers (Mike Myers) the ultimate 60s gentleman spy, cryogenically frozen in the 60s to be defrosted in the 90s when his archenemy Dr Evil (Mike Myers, again) again threatens to destroy the world.  Watch as the misogynistic Powers tries to adjust to 90s life, where there isn't so much free love, women object to being called baby and the cold war is over all while he tries to track down and catch his nemesis.

This comedy is another tour de force from the former Saturday Night stalwart Mike Myers, his two principle characters Austin Powers and Dr Evil are fabulous comic creations and to date have survived two sequels.  The James Bond mimics are clever and not as silly as some of the previous spoof spy movies have been, i.e. the character Random Task a Dr Evil henchman who is deadly when throwing a shoe, a knowing nod to the Goldfinger henchman Odd Job who was deadly when throwing a hat, even the actor playing Random Task looks similar to the actor behind Odd Job.

The script is hilarious with very few dull moments, this is a comedy first and a spoof second and succeeds at every juncture.  The direction and acting is spot on, both parties play this for laughs.

An amusing 5 out of 5
