This, the second installment of the ongoing saga around the adventures of the "ultimate gentleman spy"tm. Again this film pits the ultra suave Austin Powers (Mike Myers) against his nemesis Dr Evil this time set in the 60s using time travel Austin travels back to the 1960s to get his mojo back, after Dr Evil had it stolen. Add in a few new comedy characters to the mix, Heather Graham as Felicity Shagwell ("Shagwell by name Shag-very-well by reputation"), Verne Troyer as Mini Me, and Mike Myers as Fat Bastard and this has as many, if not more laughs than the first.
I know what you are thinking, a sequel to a surprise hit, the start of a comedy franchise, surely this film is just a cash in, I know that the predecessors in this genre to not inspire confidence, but this film excels over its originator. This film feels just as fresh as the first, with the existing characters Mike Myers throws brilliant new characters into the mix, none better than Verne Troyer as Mini Me, a homicidal 2'6" genetic creation. Seth Green goes from strength to strength as the unwanted natural child of Dr Evil and this time he as the jealous Mini Me to deal with.
The script is just as amusing as the first and the direction is just as lively as the original. With Austin Power, Mike Myers has a character that with the right scripts can go on and on.
