Trillo d'Ascioti

"Il Bello"

Mayor of Estin

AC 1014

"With those eyes, milady, you can ask me whatever you want"

(Heard so many times during a party...)

Appearance

In a word, Trillo d'Ascioti is handsome. Trillo's features resemble those of a classical Milenian statue. He is 6'2" tall with a lean muscular build, light olive skin, eyes and hair jet black. He keeps his hair long to the shoulders and loose, or tied back with a ribbon. He has a little diamond earring on his left ear (a gift of a rich Caurenzan woman). His perfect teeth are as white as snow, and it is said that when he smiles women's hearts melt.

When attending social events, he always wears elegant and expensive dress. For official functions, he is a dashingly handsome in his neat uniform.

Personality & Quirks

Women are Trillo's main interest. Every gesture he does and every word he says are geared toward attracting them. Despite the fact he is often a successful suitor, he likes to frequent brothels and private houses where he is free from the bounds of courting. He pays a private counselor for his look and spends a lot of money and time tending to his body. He cannot bear dust or dirt , thus his dresses and his house are very neat. He regularly brushes his shoulders with his hands.

Soon after his arrival in Estin, Trillo has become more nervous, more suspicious of everyone and everything. He prefers to spend more time in private houses and he has become more careful when courting someone else than his wife. Courting women is not that fun anymore, but it is the only thing he is able to do well.

Background

Trillo was born in Ascioti, a village near Oreggiano, in AC 966. His parents were farmers. He quickly learnt how to use his appearance by courting women in good standing, thus improving his status.

He entered the Glantrian army because of the fascination of uniform. Little more than a foot soldier, he became one of the highest-ranking officials in Oreggiano under the patronage of Isadora Constanza, a wealthy woman fifteen years older than him.

However, the two lovers were not very discreet about their dangerous liaison. Isadora's husband, Signor Costante Constanza, was a rich man, descended from a minor noble family that once ruled Oreggiano. A womanizer himself, Signor Costante, could not bear his wife's affair and the scandal it brought upon him. Signor Costante thought to solve the problem by having Trillo marrying his younger sister, Novella, a beautiful woman known for her paranoid jealousy (and someone Costante wanted to be rid of as soon as possible.)

However, after a cursory marriage in AC 991, Trillo resumed his not-too-secret meetings with Isadora. When she declared she was pregnant with Trillo's child, Signor Costante was outraged.

At that time, the new Prince of Caurenze, Innocenti di Malapietra was searching for a puppet to be appointed as the new mayor of Estin (The old mayor had died within days of the death of the old Prince, Principe Mario di Malapietra.). Eager to ingratiate himself to Prince Innocenti—and to be rid of the witness of his wife's betrayal—Signor Costante volunteered Trillo as the new mayor. (Signor Costante's troubled did not end there, however, as his wife named the child Amante, meaning "lover" in Caurenzan.)

Principe Innocenti sent Trillo to Estin, with discreet instructions to learn as much as he can about the nobles who were planning to establish a Principality in that area, namely, Lord Pieter Vandehaar, Baron of Oxhill, and later Doña Isabella de Montebello, Baronesa del Egorn. When Trillo his arrival at his new post, he was shocked at the rustic lack of elegance and excitement in the slow far-flung town. Estin was no fun at all, and neither were his duties. Trillo was a poor mayor, and under his (lack of) leadership Estin has undergone a worsening—except perhaps for the brothels and private houses, whose business has much picked up lately, thanks to their mayor's patronage.

The only excitement Trillo found in Estin was Lady Mary McGregor, the estranged noblewoman from Klantyre, who Trillo met at the infrequent parties of the town, and whom Trillo is presently courting.

Trillo has been quite useless in his stay in Estin. Even his espionage mission had failed, as shown by the enfeoffment of the Principality of Sablestone in the self same area. (Trillo did manage to himself become the victim of espionage and blackmail by Baron Pieter through his mistress and spy, Leena Tijlen.) Prince Innocenti decided it was punishment enough to leave Trillo at his post—and with the Prince's descent to madness, it seems Trillo will be stuck in Estin for quite a while longer.

Web of Intrigue

Trillo's mission was to harass the rivals of Prince Innocenti di Malapietra, who were planning to establish a new principality in southwestern Glantri. But Prince Innocenti was soon to learn—as well as Lord Pieter Vandehaar and Doña Isabella de Montebello—that Trillo was a useless and ineffective in this matter. In fact, Lord Pieter soon proved Trillo to be a liability for Prince Innocenti, when Trillo succumb to Lord Pieter's attempts of blackmail. Doña Isabella has decided not to bother with such a worthless pawn.

Trillo is presently having an affair with Mary McGregor, fled from Crownguard to escape her terrible father-in-law Prince Brannart McGregor of Klantyre, and hoping Trillo would help her rescue her schizophrenic husband, Sir Quentin McGregor, and her malevolent son, Sir Angus McGregor. This is a purely personal relation and Trillo is blind to the possible political consequences of his actions.

Trillo is avoiding all other political intrigues running in the zone, and at the moment, has no friends.
