MURDERED BY

HAROLD STANLEY KING
April 29, 2001
About a week ago I received a message from a lady named Helen King who contacted the PRUP mail box about her nephew, Harold Stanley King. Helen reported that Harold, whom she calls Stanley was dying of a brain tumor in the Tucker Unit of the Arkansas Department of Correction. She was utterly distraught, verging on hysteria and didn't know where to turn.
Unfortunately, when she first contacted me she knew only that he had a brain tumor, had undergone surgery, but was terminal. She relayed that "they" had told Stanley that he would be released to go home to die "after the elections", but that his condition was worsening and there was no indication the ADC was making plans to release him.
Of course, this was not enough information for me to proceed to make contact with John Byus, Medical Administrator of the ADC, since Byus is known to me to be a compulsive liar, who through years of practice has become so remarkably adept at dissiminating disinformation to the families of sick and dying prisoners that to those unfamiliar with him he appears to be a warm and compassionate man, doing everything in his power to help them resolve their tragic situations. Therefore, when one phones Byus to speak with him it's necessary to have "all your ducks in a row", knowing all the particulars of whom you have spoken to, what papers have been filed, the dates of the actions, and everything else he can think of that you might now know, so that he can't tell you that you'll have to get back to him when you find out the answers to his questions. Byus sure won't help you any more than he has to, and has a way of becoming permanently "unavailable" if you call very often, so you have to be well prepared to answer any questions he may ask before you get him on the phone.
Helen contacted Stanley, and two days ago I received from him the document which will appear beneath this introduction to this heartbreaking story. However, by this time Stanley was too desperately ill to provide me the specific information I needed before I had any chance to accomplish anything by contacting Byus, so he simply sent me what he had prepared a few weeks earlier, while he was still able.
The next three days were filled with dozens of increasingly desperate and distraught e-mails from Helen and my frantic responses, trying to make her understand what it was I needed, but Helen was so frightened and grief-stricken that she just couldn't mentally process the information I was sending. In desperation I wrote her a very brusque and blunt message which I felt very bad about the necessity of, but I felt she required a "virtual slap in the face" to shock her out of her hysteria so that she could calm down and focus on what she needed to get busy doing so that we could begin to work at seeing what we could do to try to convince the cruel and sadistic John Byus to let Stanley come home to die amidst the love and warmth of his family, instead of the cold and merciless Arkansas Department of Correction, which seldom sends prisoners to die in a clean and caring hospital, preferring to leave them to die alone and unattended in their cells. Because Stanley had a Transfer Eligibility date of January 10, 2000, which meant that he was eligible to be released on parole even had he not been dying, there is NO JUSTIFICATION WHATSOEVER for the ADC to have required him to die in their dark and evil world - other than Byus' apparent lust for the suffering and death of others.
I was really worried that my attempt to shock Helen out of her hysteria might backfire and send her spinning even more quickly to the nervous breakdown I feared she was headed into, and it was with tremendous relief that I received her next message, which was calm, sweet and understanding of my motives for sending her the harsh message, and what it was I needed from her.
As I mailed her my relieved and apologetic reply to her message, I received another from her. It read:
"The ADC will be releasing Stanley asap now. He died at 3:30 this morning. I am crushed. Dear GOD I hope he didn't suffer any more brutality than he already had. Thank you for everything, Linda."
I stared at the message in disbelief for a few seconds. Dead? No, that couldn't be. We were just getting ready to start trying to help him.
Then it hit me. I ran to the bathroom and was violently ill as tears choked and blinded me. Byus had claimed another victim for his sick and twisted fetish for witnessing and participating in the suffering and gruesome deaths of prisoners and the helpless, unbearable grief, of their stricken loved ones.
I lifted my face to heaven and I sobbed aloud, "Please, God! PLEASE don't let the leukemia with which you've so justly stricken John Byus kill him before we can get him prosecuted for the murder of the plasma program victims so that he can die in prison as he's caused so many others to do! PLEASE, GOD!"
After gaining some control over my emotions, I hurried back to my computer to send to Helen whatever useless words of comfort I had to offer her, and to begin making contacts to see what legal recourse Stanley's family had for the medical neglect, and deliberate indifference to the suffering of a dying man. I am glad to report that there IS legal recourse to what Stanley endured.
Here's the story of some of what he endured, in his own words. We expect to fill in the details of his final days and hours through witnesses to his suffering and death. I warn you that the following will make you sick, but please read on. He was forced to ENDURE it - people of conscience should bear to read his personal account. Such as happened to him could someday happen to you or someone you love unless we all do everything in our power to see to it that this type of treatment of sick and dying prisoners is STOPPED!
UPDATE: June 15, 2002
I just received the following message from Helen:
I received a "return to sender" letter; June 10,2002 from Tucker,AR.; WRITTEN TO STANLEY, postdated the same day as the "last" letter I received from him; approx one year 3 mo ago, April 23,2001.
What a shock to my mind and body to get that in the mail with deceased and hospital written on it. I had heart palpitations, thought I would have to go to ER. I stared and stared, could not believe what I was reading.
So as we can see, the ADC mail room staff is running "a little behind" in their work -- or is it just another way to keep twisting their knife in the hearts of the loved ones of the people they murder? This is just one more example of the lack of humanity of those who work inside the Dark and Evil World of the ADC!
Statement of Harold Stanley King
The following is a summary of my attempts to receive treatment prior to being hospitalized for emergency surgery to stabilize a tumor in my brain.
About the third week of May, 2000 I was experiencing occassions of temporary blindness, with blinking spots pulsating about 3 to 4 times per second in the left field of vision of both eyes. On the third occurrence of this symptom I asked my supervisor, Mr. Fred Johnson, School Principal, to escort me to the Infirmary in order to have my blood pressure checked as a precaution. I was allowed into the Infirmary and my blood pressure check was normal or good.
At that time I explained to the nurse the symptoms I was having, and my concern and was simply told, "That beats me!" and was dismissed without notation or referral to sick call or doctor's call.
Witnesses:
Mr. Fred Johnson, School Principal
Inmate Darrell Sheridan, ADC#114336
About the second week of June, 2000, I became very ill with vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. My roommate, Inmate Gerald Lamier, ADC#88882 summoned the security guard in the control booth and informed him that I was very ill and needed Infirmary attention. The Officer called to the Infirmary and was informed that I would not be seen by them, and to have me turn in a sick call slip for the next day. I filled out the sick call slip and turned it in.
On or about June 13, 2000, I was sent to the Infirmary in response to my sick call slip. I explained my symptoms to the nurse and immediately attacked by her as a liar. (She claimed) I would not be having the symptoms I indicated and still we walking around. She said I should have been unconscious. I explained to her that I was having occassions of falling down and dizziness. Again, I was called a liar. I was made to go into the waiting area and drink water from a cooler until I vomited or had a bowel movement. The nurse was very hateful and claimed that if I were vomiting and having diarrhea the water would make me spew out of both ends. I drank several cups of water but was unable to vomit or have a bowel movement. I requested to go back to the barracks and lay down. I was made to sign a treatment refusal form in which I stated I was unable to provide a vomit of bowel sample at this time. I came to the Infirmary for treatment, not torture.
The next day I soiled my long john underwear with diarrhea and took them to the Infirmary so they could have their sample. The sample was refused as it was in my long johns and possibly contaminated by laundry soaps and other chemicals.
After returning to the barracks I passed out in my room where my roommate got the attention of the barracks officer and the Infirmary was again notified. This time the nurse came and found me on the floor and had me transported to the Infirmary.
I have no memory of the next 4 days. I was told I spent 3 of the days in the Infirmary delirious, during which time the Infirmary staff tried to have me locked in punitive isolation and written a disciplinary by Security for faking. Captain Juanita Marks intervened on my behalf and stopped them. It is also my understanding that Captain Marks was also the person who insisted on notifying a freeworld doctor who insisted on my being brought to the hospital where he performed the emergency surgery on my brain. I was told another days delay and I would have been dead.
WITNESSES:
Captain Juanita Marks of the Unit Security Staff
Nurse Lawson, Infirmary Staff
Officer Donahue, Unit Security Staff
Officer Boone, Unit Security Staff
Chaplain Ruby Swanigan, Unit Chaplain
Dr. Simpson, Jefferson Regional Medical Center
It's not yet clear whether the Nurse Lawson Stanley mentions as a witness is the same nurse who was so brutal and indifferent to his suffering, but the ADC has the means of determining who she is. In my view the "nurse" who demonstrated such a deplorable lack of professionalism and compassion doesn't qualify as a human being, let alone a medical professional, and should have her license revoked and be prevented from ever working with sick people again. If you agree, please use the link on this page to let the Governor know what you think of the treatment this "nurse" inflicted on a dying man, and ask him what he intends to do about it.
While we don't yet know her name we WILL find out, and when we do it will be published here. I hope that when we do, everyone who agrees with my estimation of that monster who claims to be a nurse will contact the Arkansas Medical Board and DEMAND that her license be immediately and permanently revoked.
Please check back often, for updates to this appalling case of medical neglect, abuse and indifference and the manner in which it's dealt with by the ADC, CMS The Arkansas Medical Board and the Arkansas or Federal courts.
As soon as they arrive I will also be posting photos of Stanley and his family and other pertinent items. I just had to get this page done right away so that the world could have immediate access to this account of the way the Arkansas Department of Correction and Correctional Medical Services, (or is it Convict Murdering Services?), treats sick and dying prisoners. Please leave a message for Stanley's family in the Guest Book.
I can't close this without expressing my personal gratitude to and admiration for the courageous, humanitarian actions of Captain Juanita Marks. She appears to be a shining example of what we wish all prison personnel, and people in general were. It took great courage and compassion to stand her moral ground and insist on doing the RIGHT thing in the face of the apparent opposition of the "medical professionals". I will praise her courage, professionalism and moral standards in my message to the Governor, as I hope everyone else will.
Captain Marks, I salute you. Feel free to contact me confidentially at the email link if you so desire.

HAROLD STANLEY KING'S MOTHER DOVIE KING
On Tuesday, May 1, 2001 while some of Stanley's brothers and sisters were en route to AR to claim his body or attend his funeral, they received the horrifying news that their mother had died.
Although Dovie had been in poor health for quite a long time, her family and I are conviced that her death was hastened by the suffering she endured, knowing that her son was being abused and medically neglected in the ADC, and that the coup de gras was her unbearable grief from his agonizing and inhumane death. The tragedy inflicted on this innocent family is worthy of the Greek Gods, and is the work of the Arkansas Department of Correction.
Because the latest tragedy inflicted on this good, American family by the ADC is so fresh I don't yet have all of the details, and will publish them as soon as I do. Once again, I felt it important to make available to the world news of this latest horror of which the ADC is guilty.
It's outrageous and dispicable enough when they murder prisoners, but when they start murdering their mothers, and destroying their families in the process it's time to put a STOP to the merciless brutality of this barbaric institution and its criminal administrators.
Please continue to follow the progress of this outrageous case.

FACTOR 8: THE ARKANSAS PRISON BLOOD SCANDAL
Kelly Duda and Concrete Films have produced a documentary which details the corruption and greed that led the Arkansas Department of Correction to spread death from Arkansas prisons to the entire world. Hear the story from the mouths of those responsible for the harvesting of infected human blood plasma, and its sale to be made into medicines.
Duda's award-winning film unflinchingly documents the whole story the U.S. government and the state of Arkansas have tried to keep hidden from the world.
