Hide the Mice
Hide the mice in closets in cabinets in dark
listen to their scrapping quiet as you walk
then they start in little moves as you still
in your sleep it’s their moves your nightmares fill

Hurry scurry across nightmare passage.

Hide the snakes under the sofa and bed
Make them poisonous to tempt me to dead
As I wake touching cold floor with bare feet
Perhaps to a gentle fanging will greet.

Hurry scurry across nightmare passage.

Hide all those centipedes and water bugs
Let them wiggle beneath my bedroom rugs
To crunch lightly as I walk in waking
Add delightfully to nightmare’s making.
