Makings : Comparison of Forms
Senryu
What makes your tears flow,
Emotions boil in sadness,
What makes your heart go?
Tanka
Whom cast thee downward,
To the muck and mired ways,
Whom makes thy lot hard
All of your life’s days?
Which direction comes sorrow,
Each dim future tomorrow.
The Senryu is a form of Haiku that deals with the Human rather than
Physical nature of things. The Tanka is the shortest form of a Choka and
Deals with a single event or mood, usually associated with Human nature.
