Outside My Window
What soft shadows cast through my window to the wall,
Is it your silhouette or nothing there at all?
Are you staring from the gray remaining obscure
Lost in silence filled with self-fear and insecure?

Will there be a gentle tapping at my back door,
That opens to nothing and no one as before,
Or will I find you standing there waiting for me,
Will enter when you’re invited of once more flee.

What brings you to be casting long and sad shadows
Sent by neon signs that flicker on my window,
What puts you out there where most walkers never stride,
What makes you so very shy that you always hide?

Gloom
