SCary Street Revisited
Twilight comes
While the city traffic hums,
Drifts away
For today
Taking the workers to homes,
Leaves the bones,
All alone,
Steel, brick, asphalt and the stone,
Dark grows streets
Evil treats,
Dwellers hides in living tombs;
Just four rooms,
Locked and barred when Darkness comes.
Night comes creeping up cracked streets,
Traffic hums
And on steel plates give dull beats
In double measure of thumps,
Over runs
The trucks and cars cross the bumps
Of old passages through night,
Whisking by
Beneath the neon starlight,
Not looking in vacant eyes
That would cry
If tears were left them to try
On crack streets.
Gloom
