Dr. Raj Kumar Reyes Dasgupta, son of Arabinda Dasgupta and Tita Reyes, was born in Toronto. Dr. Dasgupta was the grandson of the late Bimalendu & Sovarani Dasgupta of Ranchi, Bihar, India and of the late Jose & Lucila Reyes of Ibajay, Aklan, the Philippines. The Dasgupta family moved to California in 1981 from Toronto. Dr. Dasgupta received his Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of California at Irvine. Dr. Dasgupta attended his first two years in medical studies at the Medical University of Silesia, in Katowice, Poland, and had it completed at the Cornell affiliated hospitals in New York. He took and completed his residency at Michigan State University on Internal Medicine. Currently, he is an attending physician, as internist, at the Spectrum Health Care System in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is to start a three-year Fellowship Program on Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine at Columbia University, New York on July 1, 2007. Dr. Dasgupta, is active in medical research and held lectures and presentations before various medical groups at state and national level. His research study on the Utilization of BMI (Body Mass Index) In Diagnosing Obesity at an Outpatient Clinic was the most notable among his studies. It won him the 2006 American College of Physicians (ACP) national research competition held in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Dasgupta and the other winners, were honored on April 6 to 8, 2006 by the contest sponsor, the Merck U.S. Human Health Department. His paper on the said study was published in Southwest Michigan Medical Journal, in April 1, 2006 issue. His most recent paper, the Proton Pump Inhibitor Use as a Risk Factor For Nosocomial Infection From Clostridium Difficile, was published in Southwest Michigan Medical Journal, in August 1, 2006 issue. Currently, Dr. Dasgupta continues to teach medical students and residents at Michigan State University. He is still active on research studies and coordinates on various field studies on internal medicine. His current concentrations are on Pulmonary Hypertension and Congestive Heart Failure. Dr. Dasgupta also speaks for Novartis and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Currently he is teaching the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Step 1, 2 & 3 classes for Kaplan. **He planned to do another specialization in Sleeping Disorders at Columbia University, New York after his three years fellowship which he started July 1, 2007.
