I made a cute little snowman
And he melted into a big muddle.
Oh how it really broke my heart
To see him in that old dirt puddle!

I couldn't bear to part with him
And I know this sounds crazy,
But I scooped him up into jars
And made him into snowman gravy!

So I'm giving some to all my friends.
Just add milk and pour over biscuits,
And when you savor this, you'll see. . .
It doesn't taste as crazy as it is!

Melted Snowman Gravy Recipe- Submitted by Lisa in VA

1 C sugar, 2 T flour, 3 T cocoa, 2 C milk

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan. Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly until it begins to thicken somewhat like regular gravy. Cool slightly and serve warm over biscuits. Top with butter or cool whip if desired.

Note: Toast may be substituted but is not quite as good! Store leftover gravy in fridge and eat it cold later like pudding. You can also serve gravy cold over biscuits. (Not good reheated.)

Flavored Ice- Submitted by Lisa in VA

Add two or three ice cubes to cup water in a blender. Help children create "snow" by having them turn the blender on and off until a snow consistency results. I have found that if I do all the blending first before the children are actually in class it works better. Have the children scoop the "snow" into a paper cup and pour juice concentrate over it. One year I just froze some Hi-C until it was like a slush and had that with the kids.

Potato Snowmen- Submitted by Lisa in VA

For 2 snowmen, microwave 3 fairly round red or white potatoes - a small, medium and large potato - until done. (Potatoes can take anywhere from 2 - 5 minutes to microwave, so watch them carefully.)

Cut the potatoes in half and peel them. Place them cut side down on a serving dish to form 2 snowmen. Decorate them like a snowman, you can use pecan halves for feet, a carrot strip for a nose, black olive slices for eyes (and cut in half for a mouth.) This can be done beforehand, then reheated in the microwave right before serving. Before serving, you can decorate the plate with "snow" by putting dabs of sour cream at the feet of the snowmen. Parsley spears make nice Christmas trees, too.

Edible Snowman- Submitted by Sherry

1/4 cup butter, 1 bag marshmallows, chocolate chips, sprinkles, candy cane, silver balls, marshmallows, M&M's, etc.

Melt butter and bag of marshmallows in large pot. Add just enough popped popcorn so that the popcorn is well covered in goo! Let cool enough to handle. Shape three balls from the popcorn mixture (one large, one medium, and one small), then put together to form a snowman. Use chocolate chips, sprinkles, candy cane, silver balls, marshmallows, M&M's, etc., to decorate. Refrigerate for an hour before eating. Don't forget to take a picture first!!!

Snowflake Fruit Snacks- Submitted by Sherry

Ingredients (per child): 1 large marshmallow, a variety of fruits cut into small pieces, flaked coconut, mini-marshmallows, 3 coffee-stirring sticks, cut in half

Make kabobs by skewering mini-marshmallows and pieces of fruit onto each of six sticks. Push one end of each stick into the large marshmallow to create a snowflake shape. Sprinkle the entire snowflake with flaked coconut. This is a "snow" yummy!

Snowflake Snack- Submitted by Cheryl

Peanut butter, hexagonal shaped crackers, coconut

Have the children spread peanut butter on the hexagonal shaped crackers. Then roll the crackers in the coconut and eat! Use this activity to explain to the children the the coconut sticks to the crackers much like ice crystals stick together to form a real snowflake.

Popcorn Snowmen- Submitted by Cheryl

Popcorn, marshmallows, butter, raisins (for the eyes and buttons), and gumdrops (for the hat).

Pop the popcorn and melt the butter and marshmallows (just as you would for making rice krispie treats). Once the butter and marshmallows are melted pour the mixture over the popcorn and mix well. After the mixture has cooled, have the children take two handfuls of the mixture, one smaller than the other. Have the children shape them into balls and place the smaller ball on top of the larger one, Then they decorate their snowmen with the raisins and gumdrops. Use wax paper to put the snowmen on. Most children will love the sticky texture and the smell!

Warm Snowmen for a Cold Day- Submitted by Cheryl

Create a twist on little ones' views of cold, wet snowmen with this delicious idea. Give each child three refrigerated biscuits and have the child to place them vertically on a piece of foil to resemble a snowman. Use pretzel sticks for the snowman's arms, and raisins for the snowman's eyes, nose, mouth, and buttons. Place the foil on a baking sheet and bake as directed. Serve with butter or honey. Enjoy these warm snowmen on a cold winter's day!! Yum!!

Edible Snowmen- Submitted by Cheryl

Use large marshmallows held together by dampening the one flat side on each marshmallow & pressing them together. Then use a licorice strip (or fruit leather) for the scarf, pretzels for the arms, raisins for button & eyes, candy corn for nose. Make and eat! The kids LOVE these!
