A Decade Spent In the Depths Of Hell

Reflections On An American Tragedy:

Ten Years Of Pain and Hopelessness

Counter

It's hard to believe that an entire decade has gone by since the Oklahoma City bombing. But time has softened nothing----no wounds have healed, no sorrow lifted just a little. I am not taking this opportunity to expound upon what Tim McVeigh did and why he did so. God knows, there has been far more than enough documented unto death.

What must be of significance is that one hundred sixty-nine people died as a direct result of that bombing. We cannot forget any of them. They all died needlessly. A myriad of events, if altered or aborted, would have assured that none of these people---the victims killed by the bomb and the one murdered by the federal government----would have lost their lives that day.

If we are to learn anything at all, may it be that nobody should fall between the cracks: War veterans deserve our support when they return from battle, world-weary and emotionally bankrupt. Those of you who are fortunate enough to be blessed with children, let me implore you to listen to them and rescue them from depression and a sense of malignant emptiness.

A Cry In the Dark Goes Unheeded

As the winds of time gather strength and speed
And appear to sweep all signs of pain away,
You may someday find, in your hour of need,
A reason to live---quiet hours in which to pray.

They've vilified you---over and over again.
Pain offers strange gifts as it takes and takes.
Those who held you close, to this day remain,
True and loyal to you, despite all your mistakes.

None of us know what captured your heart that day,
Though many have claimed that they knew you.
To the world at large, you had little to say.
You trusted no-one and none reached out to you.

You tried to tell those who then turned a deaf ear,
You were drowning in a debilitating sense of despair.
They would not listen, not while you were here
And when you forced them to see you, they just didn't care.
