SHARD

I thought the Shard were a pretty neat idea for Vor. I was not going to ever actually DO a Shard army, but then the Forcebook came out, the models came out, and I was pretty much done with my Zykhee and looking for something new and different. I had no idea it would lead to buying all new paints, new inks, and developing a whole new style of painting. But I don't regret it one bit. I haven't finished my Shard yet, I still have six Concussors, my second AMP suit, three Scryes, and my Rishkith conversion to paint. I think about it a lot, I really do, but I never quite get around to it.

Concussors were going to be the backbone of my army. My Zykhee, Neo-Soviets, and Growlers all had a close combat emphasis, and I wanted an all-shooting army. What I found out from gaming with them is that skulking behind cover and taking potshots is a lot less exciting. Especially when the enemy Soulless bounce into your position.

The big backup for my Concussors was my Matrix cannon and the AMP suit. The Matrix cannon blew itself up as often as not, but was damn fun to play around with. The AMP suit was so big that it attracted a lot of fire, and I don't think that it ever lived up to its potential.

The other Trueform type that I really wanted to explore was the Ambients. The whole shielding thing seemed very cool to me, but with just two, it never really developed into anything extraordinary. The Husks were made from Magma Elemantals taken from the Crucible range of figures. They were great to soak up enemy fire and were hard to stop, but didn't stop much of the enemy on thier own merits.

My Primes were great to play with. They were either masters of destruction with ranged weapons (Prime goes BOOM with Matrix cannon, film at 11) or would win the war on their own in close combat.

You wanted to know how I did these fabulous paint jobs? Really? You are in luck this time, because I have a page about how I painted my Shard.
